Of proud Spanish
heritage, with foundation sires from Puerto Rico and Colombia, it is the
natural, smooth gait that distinguishes the Paso Fino breed.
Rather than trotting, the Paso Fino moves with an evenly spaced, four
beat gait. As each hoof strikes the ground independently, the
impact is dissipated before it can jostle the rider.
Speed of forward movement
progresses from the fino and paso corto to the largo. The rapid
fire staccato rhythm of the classic fino gait, whether demonstrated
bella forma or under saddle, is a thrill. Properly conditioned,
these horses can corto for hours, and thanks to the smoothness of the
gait, the trail rider can stay comfortable in the saddle, too.
Elegant and noble, Paso
Finos are born with the ability to gait. Training can define and
enhance use. Whether English or Western, show, endurance, or
pleasure depends on the innate characteristics of the particular horse
and desire of its rider.
